Emission Control Service for £14.99

In return, for every ECS carried out, The Co-operative Motor Group offsets 20 per cent of a car’s annual CO2 emissions through funding projects in developing countries that avoid or absorb an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide*. The business has contributed £10,665 to help fund environmental projects across the world.

Reduce Your Impact on the Environment

To help reduce the impact your car has on the environment, we will carry out an Emission Control Service, which can:

1) Reduce harmful exhaust emissions
2) Improve fuel economy  therefore saving you money
3) Restore lost power
4) Help to reduce your carbon footprint by offsetting some of your vehicle's emissions

The Co-operative Group has teamed up with Climate Care – an organisation dedicated to combating climate change through carbon offsetting – and with every Emission Control Service carried out we will pay Climate Care to offset 20% of an average car’s annual carbon dioxide emissions through funding projects in developing countries that avoid or absorb carbon dioxide.

What is carbon offsetting?

Each time we drive the car, CO2 (carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that is released when fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal are burnt) is added into the atmosphere. Carbon offsetting involves funding projects in the developing world that either absorb (for example, through planting trees), or avoid (for example, through being more efficient with energy) equivalent amounts of greenhouse gases.

How do we offset your car’s CO2?

We calculate how much CO2 the average car doing average mileage emits, then make a donation to projects that work to 'neutralise' 20% of those CO2 emissions. We invest in projects like rainforest reforestation, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Examples of projects that The Co-operative Group have funded:

Reforestation in the Kibale Forest National Park, Uganda: The replanting of rainforest in the Kibale National Park in Uganda. Much of this valuable tropical rainforest was cut down during the 1960s and 1970s and this project aims to re-establish a naturally-regenerating rainforest ecosystem. The rainforest absorbs carbon dioxide during growth, and effectively ‘locks it up’ in biomass.

Treadle pumps in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, India: These manual pumps are used to irrigate fields outside the monsoon season. They provide a more sustainable and affordable alternative to expensive diesel-powered pumps, increasing productivity and bringing much needed additional income to farming families.

If you follow these simple greener driving tips you can reduce your costs whilst also reducing your environmental impact even further.

  • Watch your speed - you can improve your fuel economy by about 25 percent and reduce your car’s emissions simply by driving at 50 mph rather than 70 mph.
  • Don’t be idle - turn off the engine if you expect a lengthy wait, and park up and go inside instead of using the DriveThru - you’ll save fuel, reduce your emissions and increase the performance of your catalytic converter.
  • Smooth operator - Sharp acceleration and sudden braking use more fuel - by accelerating and decelerating gradually, you can improve your fuel efficiency by around 30%.
  • Go easy on the air con - Air conditioning in cars increases emissions and decreases fuel economy by as much as one and a half kilometres for every two litres - turn yours off as soon as your car has cooled to a comfortable temperature or, better still, use your air vents.
  • Look after your car - A well maintained car can use less fuel than one that is badly maintained - for every 6psi a tyre is under-inflated, fuel consumption can rise by 1%.

Emission Control Service Guarantee

Should your engine be affected by any fuel-related contamination problems within six months of the Emission Control Service, we will undertake to re-treat your vehicle free of charge.
