Training and Development

As part of our on-going commitment to all of our employees we have developed a Society wide Training & Development Policy, an extract of which can be seen below:

Introduction

 

This policy has been derived from our values & principles and guides the practices and procedures for training and development within The Co-operative Group. We are committed to providing education & training for members, elected representatives, managers and employees so that they can contribute to the future development of the society. Furthermore it is the belief of the Society that training & development is fundamental to its effectiveness & efficiency. The society seeks continues improvement as a 'learning organisation', actively encouraging & supporting the principles of lifelong learning.

Aims

The primary aim of training and development is to improve business performance by improving people's performance. Therefore training & development opportunities are provided specifically to:-

  • Improve working skills, knowledge and efficiencies to increase an individual's capacity within their existing job role.
  • Encourage the development of vocational professional, technical or manual skills to enbale employees to become better qualified for promotion or transfer.
  • Promote the values and principles which underpin our ethics and culture to develop the organisation.
  • The opportunities will take the form of Effective and comprehensive induction training for all newly recruited emplyees, regardless of emplyment status, within one week of commencing employment.
  • Appropriate training for employees at all levels, before or immediatley following, promotion or transfer.
  • Job skills training for all new & existing staff to enable required standards of performance and work rate. This may involve systematic on the job training & coaching by nominated managers, supervisors and instructors.
  • In company training courses and programmes focused on personal development & individual skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • External training courses including further education as agreed by HR and line  managers.
  • Any other training that is a legal, statutory or ethical requirement.

  • Day to day on the job coaching by experienced colleagues
  • Our unique Sales Development Process training consisting of 5 modules
  • On-going standards and legislative Training & Coaching
  • Manufactures Training and Seminars such as product launches

Aftersales

  • Day to day on the job coaching by experienced colleagues
  • Manufactures apprenticeships
  • On-going standards and legislative Training & Coaching
