The stylish five door Megane hatchback is now available from all The Co-operative Motor Group Renault dealerships, with the sleek coupe scheduled for arrival in January.
The two cars are very different and will appeal to two very different audiences as they only share the front end, with every panel from the windscreen back being totally different. Both are attractive from all angles and the designers have managed to achieve smooth lines in the right proportion.
The Megane Coupe shares top place alongside the Volkswagen Scirocco for being a very attractive, stylish car with loads of image and presence. The hatchback is more functional and practical and it will appeal to those who want a regular looking five door with plenty of room at a sensible price.
Both body styles were driven by journalists during an international motor press event in Madrid, where it was said that the Megane was a good in the town as it was in the hills. It is very quiet and comfortable but it is the handling and road holding that was the one thing that makes the new car very special. It has to be the best in its class now but the problem with this is that 99% of Megane buyers will not buy it for its exceptional handling; they buy it to go shopping, take the kids to school and to travel up and down the motorways. This is a real shame as they won't know what they are missing.
The interior quality is much improved over the previous model with the fit and finish materials used not representative of a car from the French manufacturer; it really is very good. Prices start at £13,995 to £18,750 for the hatchback, and £14,745 to £19,195 for the coupe.
