The Co-operative Motor Group Renault Mansfield has set the standard as one of their technicians recently became part of a groundbreaking nationwide initiative to raise standards of car servicing and repair.
Thirty-eight year old Stefan Coleman was one of the first in the UK to volunteer for and complete the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme.
To achieve his Service Maintenance Technician status, Stefan – who has been with The Co-operative Motor Group since 2002 – had to pass an online theoretical test and a series of practical tasks, which assess the individual’s experience and ability.
Speaking of the difference Stefan’s training has made to Renault Mansfield, dealer principal Vincent Flynn said: “I am pleased that there is now a recognised benchmark for technical competence, as this not only sends positive messages to people within the industry, but our customers too.”
“Vehicles are becoming increasingly sophisticated and complex, so it is vital that our staff have the degree of expertise necessary to ensure 100% customer satisfaction. We are all very proud of Stefan’s involvement in what is proving to be a very positive project.”
Joining Stefan in his success are senior technician Lee Machin and technical expert Paul Lay from The Co-operative Motor Group Renault Preston. Tony Foy and Mark Ward from Farnell Bradford have also recently completed the initiative, and Ryan Flynn, Robert Blaszczak and Carl Van Niekerk from Farnell Guiseley are accredited to the highest standard of Master Technician.
The Co-operative Motor Group’s general manager Tony Guest explained: “The whole training process is very rewarding for the guys, and morale at The Co-operative Motor Group is high. We realise that our workforce is our greatest asset, and the hard work and dedication that they put in now shines through to our customers.”

As they near the end of their apprenticeships, The Co-operative Motor Group would like to wish the best of luck to Oliver Firth (Farnell Guiseley), Andrew Waceba (Farnell Bradford), Andrew Airey and William Fell (both of Renault Preston).
Also progressing well with their training are Renault Preston’s apprentices Scott Clayton and Andrew Roads.
The Co-operative Motor Group would also like to take the opportunity to officially welcome three new recruits to the apprentice programme; Andrew Mee (Renault Preston), Tom Crossley (Peugeot Halifax) and Scott Higgins (Farnell Guiseley).
