Simon is F1 Winner

Fernando Alonso he may not be, but Simon Robson from Keighley experienced his 15 minutes of Formula One glory, when he took a place on the winner's podium at The Co-operative Motor Group Renault Keighley's F1 Team Challenge.

Simon beat of stiff opposition through six heats and a grand final in a two-and-a-half hour racing event at the dealership on Skipton Road.

More than 100 people attended the invitation only event, held to celebrate the revamped dealership's recent switch from Fiat to Renault, as well as Renault's success in being named 2005 FIA Formula One Constructors' and Drivers' World Champions.

Using networked games consoles, customers competed on simulated F1 circuits to find the fastest 12 laps of the night, with qualifiers going through to a semi-final and then a final.

Renault's bespoke Brands Hatch Scalextric circuit was also available for customers to test their skills, keeping their strength up with premium burgers and speciality sausages served at the Renault cafe.

General manager Chris Terry said: "It was an excellent evening and a great way for us to say thank you to our loyal and much valued customers. Despite emerging victorious to win coveted F1 branded clothing, I'm delighted to say Simon resisted the temptation to spray competitors with his prize bottle of champagne."
