The Trading Standards Committee said “Consumers should feel their utmost confidence when dealing with garages that are members of the Motor Trade Partnership. By dealing with garages that are members of the scheme, consumers are assured that, through the support of the Trading Standards Service, the garage is compliant with the law and are eager to satisfy their customers’ requirements”.
In an industry where suspicion was particularly high and consumer expectations were low, the reputation of the motor trade industry had suffered for years at the hands of a minority of rogue traders. As a result the Motor Trade Partnership was set up to tackle the increasing number of consumer complaints in relation to car sales, servicing and repairs.
